![]() ![]() During his reign, the Pale King discovered the Void which resided deep in the Abyss. Once the kingdom of Hallownest was formed, the Wyrm transformed into the being now known as the Pale King. The Wyrm used his power to grant most bugs intelligence and allowed all of his followers to live in peace, in exchange for their servitude. Most of the Moths willingly forsook their creator, sealing her away, and followed the Pale Wyrm instead, though some continued to worship the Radiance in secret. But later, a new Higher Being known as the Pale Wyrm arrived and created a kingdom called Hallownest. The moths came to worship the being, referring to her as "The Radiance". ~ The Seer to The Knight on the Radiance's origins.Īt one point in the past, a Higher Being created a race of highly intelligent moths. Until all of Hallownest began to dream of that forgotten light. But the memories of that ancient light still lingered, hush whispers of faith. And so this kingdom was born from that betrayal. They forsook the light that spawned them. They were content to bask in that light and honoured it. ![]() Light similar to Essence, similar to that powerful blade, though much brighter still. The folk of my tribe were born from a light. However, the brutal nature and methods which she uses to do so sets her apart from other Higher Beings as being exceptionally cruel. Like all Higher Beings, she seeks to bring bugs into her thrall in order to strengthen her influence. Interestingly, her Dreamnail dialogue has all letters written in capitals, similarly to infected creatures, showing she outright manipulates the thoughts of the people she infects.Īt the end of the day, the Radiance is nothing more than a heartless, envious monster. ![]() Along with this, she claims she will not be forgotten. ![]() In her boss fight, her Dreamnail dialogue hints at the Radiance's defiance towards the Void, her ancient enemy. The Radiance exhibits great persistence in her goal and while her ultimate goal is freedom from her prison, she shows little regard for the lesser bugs which she may kill in the process. During this process, it is said that a voice calls to the victim, implying the Radiance directly influences and manipulates the bugs of Hallownest to serve her. A powerful plague that would invade the dreams of a bug, the Infection would slowly overtake bugs, causing them to grow stronger while also erasing their free will. Once the Pale King came along and granted the bugs of Hallownest free will in exchange for servitude, the moths forgot the Radiance, sealing her away, and worshipped the Pale King instead.Įnraged that her people stopped worshipping her, she used her powers as a higher being to influence the bugs of Hallownest, which led to the Infection. She was connected to her creation, the Moth tribe, via dream essence. The Radiance once ruled the land that eventually became Hallownest. ~ Bardoon to the Knight on the creatures the Radiance infects. Union it may offer, but also a mind bereft of thought. Rejection of the Wyrm's attempt at order. For quiet retreat did I climb up here, away from spitting creatures. ![]()
